Over the last 3 years, I have tried and tested numerous recipes. Some worked for me and some did not. There were recipes that tasted really good, but then they would spread while baking (and vice versa). In speaking with other bakers, recipes that they loved and claimed baked up perfect, would spread and were a completely different shape when I pulled the tray out of the oven!
It is all trial and error and I encourage everyone to do their research and experiment for works best for them.
Here are some of my recipe recommendations that are readily available on line:
Sweetambs Royal Icing Recipe - this is one of my favourite recipes. I currently use this one .
Wilton Royal Icing Recipe - I used this recipe while attending the Wilton Decorating Classes.
Sweet Sugarbelle's Royal Icing Recipe - This was one of the first recipes I tried. I really like it a lot and would recommend as a starting point. You can always cut the recipe in half
Sweetsambs Roll Out Cookie Recipe - I really loved how these cookies kept their shape after baking. For me personally, I am not a fan of spices and zest, so this was not one that I continued to use. But I know others that do and love it!
Lila Loa Sugar Cookies - I like how this recipe holds it shape while baking.
Sweet Sugarbelle's Basic Sugar Cookie Recipe - This was a recipe that I tested out early in my baking days. It tastes good but it does spread slightly upon baking
